MSNBC anchor hit outs at GOP Presidents Day meme

Joy Reid has accused Republicans of racism for ‘disappearing’ Barack Obama from a post about Presidents Day.

The MSNBC host hit out at the GOP for a meme in which they praised several former Republican Presidents and make a slight dig at Joe Biden.

‘Happy Presidents’ Day to such great US presidents,’ read the post over photos of Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, George Bush and even Richard Nixon.

President Biden was pictured in the center of the meme with a caption in-red, ‘Not you.’

Democrat strategist Christine Pelosi, was first to blast social media post for ‘whiting out’ President Obama ‘during Black History Month’.

Reid, 53, took her cue from the post, adding in outrage that Republicans had 'disappeared the first Black president' while 'disrespecting the man who served as the first Black president's VP, who is now president'

‘If you want to know what Republicans “anti-CRT education” looks like, here it is!’ she added.

‘Notable as this party writes education mandates telling your kids’ teachers what they are allowed to teach,’ Reid wrote.

However, the eight Presidents other than incumbent Joe Biden that were featured were all Republicans – missing out on the likes of Bill Clinton or JFK.

Reid did however also hit out at the GOP’s inclusion of Nixon in the post, suggesting the party was ‘whitewashing’ the only former Commander in Chief to resign in disgrace over the Watergate scandal.

She wasn’t the only one at MSNBC outraged by the meme. Frequent MSNBC guest Elie Mystal tweeted: ‘They put Nixon there POSITIVELY, but not Biden.

‘And, of course, the @GOP would like you to think that Barack Obama never existed at all.’

Joyce Alene, a legal analyst for MSNBC added: ‘It’s the little thing, like leaving out Obama, that confirm who they really are & what motivates them.’

Reid has previously courted controversy in her outspoken comments against the Republican Party.

In March she claimed the GOP is radicalizing parents against critical race theory, saying its opponents are ‘steeped in white nationalism’.

‘Republicans aren’t running an election, they are waging an all out war for power that increasingly is based on and steeped in the Trump cult and even white nationalism and no matter how reckless or dangerous that is they’re doing it believing it will move white voters,’ Reid said on her show Wednesday.

She also sparked outrage in March when she tweeted that conservatives would trade tax cuts to use the n-word.

‘I’ll say it again: people on the right would trade all the tax cuts for the ability to openly say the n-word like in “the good old days”,’ Reid tweeted.

‘To them, not being able to be openly racist and discriminatory without consequence is oppression. Trump is the avatar for this “freedom”.’

And after this year’s Superbowl, Reid claimed the NFL was trying to ‘sanitize Blackness’ after Eminem took the knee during the half-time show.

She said she has fallen out of love with the game over its apparent inaction against racism and the lack of Black coaches in the sport.

Speaking on her show ReidOut, she said: ‘The NFL has always tried to sanitize Blackness especially during the Super Bowl, from the halftime performances to players taking a knee, and it especially does not want to dabble in the culture wars now and tick off the conservative fan base.’
