MSNBC star Rachel Maddow mocked for hysterical monologue after Trump win

Rachel Maddow is being mocked for her anti-Donald Trump monologue in which she warned the US was headed for an autocratic government after his resounding election victory.

The MSNBC star claimed that the voter turnout for the Republican president-elect was evidence Americans had ‘let democracy go’ and opted for, a ‘strongman, authoritarian system’.

She likened the outcome to those seen in countries such as North Korea, Russia and China as she urged Democrats not to become, ‘despondent’.

‘Now we can work on being fricking pirates. We can work on being a thorn in the side to anyone who tries to turn this country into some tin-pot tyranny.

However, she was instantly derided online with many viewers calling out her ‘hyperbole’.

Rachel Maddow has been mocked for a ‘boring’ anti-Donald Trump monologue in which she warned the US was headed for an autocratic government

‘Super boring, Trump was elected popular and electoral by a wide margin, it is a democratic margin,’ One person wrote.

‘Ridiculous, maybe the 10 people who watch her show will finally turn the channel,’ another added.

‘Yuck, she is so dishonest with her hyperbole,’ a third wrote.

Another person described the MSNBC star as ‘off her rocker’, while one viewer simply wrote: ‘Sit down Rachel’.

In the five minute rant, Maddow portrayed the result as a divide between democracy-supporting liberals and Republicans who want to ‘ash can the American system of government’.

She encouraged those disappointed with the outcome to get ‘fired up’ and ‘scrappy’ rather than remain upset over the coming weeks.

‘The more ground the authoritarian takes, the harder it is to ever get that ground back’ Maddow said.

‘The first order of business is to stop them taking any uncontested ground right from the outset.

‘They are going to start pushing to see how far the country is going to let them go without pushback without protest.’

She soothed liberal viewers by telling them they now had a renewed sense of purpose in the wake of Kamala Harris.

‘Apparently this is what we are on this earth to do as American citizens in this generation,’ Maddow added. ‘Because history did not just end, time did not just stop.

‘We just got marching orders from the universe and the electoral college. As of today, American citizens who do want to hold onto democracy we know what we’re going to be spending the next days, weeks and even years of our life working on.’

The scenes were reminiscent although perhaps not as emotional as the speech she delivered in 2016 immediately after Trump’s first win.

The president-elect stormed to victory in both the popular and electoral college vote.

In her concession speech, vice president Kamala Harris admitted ‘this is not what we wanted’ as she took the stage at Howard University, almost 12 hours after the race was officially called for the former president.

Harris, however, also vowed to help with the peaceful transfer of power even as she said she would continue the battle after Trump’s dominant victory.
