Multi-million-dollar Malibu home teetering after mudslide

  • Firefighters and building officials rushed to the 2800 block of Hume Road in Malibu, California where the foundation could be seen crumbling on Wednesday
  • A part of the lavish three-story home’s retaining wall had already collapsed
  • ‘We did find a good amount of water there. We don’t know if it was in the Earth itself, or possibly a sprinkler,’ firefighter Randall Wright told KABC-TV

A three-story home in Malibu almost toppled down a cliff side because of an active landslide on Wednesday, according to fire officials.  

Firefighters and building officials rushed to the 2800 block of Hume Road in Malibu, California where the foundation could be seen crumbling. 

A part of the home’s retaining wall had already collapsed.

‘We did find a good amount of water there. We don’t know if it was in the Earth itself, or possibly a sprinkler,’ firefighter Randall Wright told KABC-TV.

The house was red-tagged, meaning the owners won’t be allowed inside until a team of engineers, investigators and inspectors find that it is habitable. 

A man staying at an AirBnB next door shared with KABC-TV that he had seen steam come from the ground, just a day prior.

A local resident said that the home had just been red-tagged, seven-years-before, for a similar incident. 

According to the fire department, the owner of the home had been out of the country and had not been home yet. 

They were said to be coming back in a few hours.
