‘Multiple’ people shot during active shooting at Morgan State University: Baltimore Police tell students to stay indoors

At least four people have been shot during an active situation at Morgan State University in Maryland – as the shooter allegedly opened fire from a dorm room window. 

Baltimore Police ordered students and locals to stay indoors after at multiple people were hit by gunfire on Tuesday night. The situation is still ongoing. 

It’s understood the first 911 call was made at 9.28pm after bullets were fired inside one of the campus’ dining halls. Multiple casing have been identified at the scene. 

The shooter is firing from a seventh-floor dorm room window which has now shattered, police told WJZ. It’s unclear if there is more than one gunman. 

The entire city of Baltimore has been put under tactical alert.

The police said: ‘BPD is on scene of an active shooter situation in the 1700 block of Argonne Drive. We’re asking everyone to shelter in place and avoid the area.’

Baltimore cops confirmed: ‘BPD is confirming there are multiple victims involved. Please continue to shelter in place and avoid the area.’ 

The college told students to avoid Thurgood Marshall Hall – which is a co-ed residential hall with a dining facility attached, as well as the Murphy Fine Arts Center. 

Frenzied students were seen rushing to take cover, as a police helicopter heard instructing everyone to take shelter. 

Spokesman Vernon Davis confirmed there were at least four victims, but their conditions are not yet known. 

A white BMW is currently being hunted by police as a vehicle of interest.  

Morgan State University said in a statement: ‘An active investigation is currently underway related to a report of shots being fired on or near campus. 

‘Please stay clear of the area surrounding Thurgood Marshall Hall and the Murphy Fine Arts Center and shelter in place.’

Concerned family members are being told to avoid the campus area and report to the Safeway parking lot at 4401 Harford Road, where a BPD officer will on standby.

At 6.30pm on Tuesday, students were celebrating the annual crowning of this year’s ‘Mister & Miss Morgan State University.’ 

The event was taking place at the Murphy Fine Arts Center – which is the location that the college told people to avoid following the shooting. 

The arts center is also next to Thurgood Marshall Hall.  

No one is in custody. 

Morgan State University is the largest of Maryland’s historically black colleges and universities – and it became a higher education institution in 1975.

In 2022, there were 7,609 undergraduates and 1,392 postgraduates enrolled at the college. 

MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, donated $40 million to Morgan State in 2020.
