A Melbourne mother discovered she had a raw deal after taking home uncooked chicken from Coles which weighed 29 per cent less than the amount she was charged for.

Nickers Mhatre paid for 1.312kg of poultry fillet from the Carrum Downs supermarket, in south-east Melbourne.

But when she arrived home on Thursday afternoon, she decided to weigh her purchase only to see a 934 gram reading on her scales.

‘Ripped off!!! And yes my scales are accurate,’ she told her Facebook followers.

Nickers Mhatre 1.312 kilogram chicken weighed just 934 grams on her near-new kitchen scales

There was a 378 gram, or 29 per cent difference, between what she paid for the raw chicken and what she actually took home.

The chicken was bought for $13.78 but Ms Mhatre should have been charged $9.80 with the poultry fillets selling for $10.50 a kilogram.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Coles for comment.

Another woman asked if she had weighed the soak pads under the chicken, with Ms Mhatre answering they weighed 20 grams.

Ms Mhatre also insisted there was nothing wrong with her scales.

‘Weigh out my meat each week and separate it for specific meals,’ she said.

‘Scales six months old and never been wrong.’

She would also be unable to get a refund as the chicken was bought with a Coles voucher from the Leukaemia Foundation.

‘It was meant to be enough for three meals. Budget is tight enough without being ripped off,’ she said.
