A South Australian mother has revealed how she hacked a pet pen from Kmart and turned it into a way of keeping her baby safe while she worked outside.

The savvy mum recently posted photos to Facebook showing how she’d placed her baby inside the $29 structure that she’d set up in her backyard.

The pet-friendly item is designed as a ‘secure space for puppies and kittens to play’, according to product details on Kmart’s website.

‘I know it supposed to be for pets,’ the woman wrote alongside two snaps. ‘It’s brand new and she enjoys playing outside while I hang the washing out.’

The mum explained she had been trying to come up with a solution that allowed her to watch her child while she hung out the washing.

She said as well as keeping her baby safe, she needed to make sure her baby was protected from the ground as it was wet and cold.

The pet pen, with its waterproof base, solved the problem, and because it comes with fine mesh sides and zip-up roof, it also keeps bugs out.
