Mum Liz Amaya reveals why you need to deep clean your washing machine now

Why you need to ‘deep clean’ your washing machine every month – and the cheap and simple method you can use to keep your laundry streak-free

  • A mum revealed how to clean a washing machine with dishwasher tablets
  • She said you throw two in and then wash the machine on a hot, empty cycle

A mum has revealed you need to deep clean your washing machine every month in order to keep it working efficiently and your laundry streak-free.

Stylist Liz Amaya, from Brisbane, said while you might not think about it, you need to clean your washing machine every month or every 100 washes.

This is because the dirt that disappears from your clothes, towels, and sheets has to go somewhere and it can build up inside your washing machine over time.

‘Do you wash your washer?’ Liz posted on Instagram.

‘I do this once a month and it works for me.’

Liz explained that she simply adds two dishwashing tablets to an empty cycle and then washes the washing machine empty ‘on a hot cycle’.

‘No more marks on your clean laundry,’ Liz said.

The first thing Carolina said you should do is add a spoonful of baking soda to the washing machine’s drum.

Baking soda acts as a natural brightener and deodoriser.

When added to a washing machine, it works to gently scrub the inside and combat those stale, mouldy odours that are left behind via old soap and fabric softener deposits.

How to deep clean your washing machine

* STEP ONE: Add a spoonful of baking soda to the washing machine’s drum.

* STEP TWO: Pull the rubbery door seal back and spray it gently with white vinegar.

* STEP THREE: Wipe the white vinegar into the door with a microfibre cloth.

* STEP FOUR: Add a cup of white vinegar to the compartment where you usually put your washing powder.

* STEP FIVE: Set the machine to a hot cycle.

* STEP SIX: Leave the door open to air dry once finished.

Following this, Carolina said you should pull the rubbery door seal back and spray it gently with white vinegar.

White vinegar is one of nature’s best cleaning products – it cuts through residue, buildup, hard water stains, and even grease effortlessly.

‘Wipe the white vinegar in with a microfibre cloth,’ Carolina added.

Next, add a cup of white vinegar to the compartment where you usually put your washing powder.

‘Finally, set the machine to a hot cycle,’ Carolina said.

If you want to add a finishing touch, you can leave the washing machine door open for it to air dry out once clean.
