Mum-of-three shares her genius ‘no mess’ sloppy joe burger trick

Mum-of-three shares her genius ‘no mess’ sloppy joe burger trick for her son’s school lunch box: ‘I need to try this’

  • A mum has made ‘no mess’ sloppy joe burgers for her three kids
  • A ‘sloppy joe’ is a burger bun filled with mince meat, sauce and cheese
  • Instead of the original the mum cut a hole in the bun and filled it with ingredients
  • The clever idea looks like a ‘cob loaf’-style burger to prevent spillage

Rather than making sandwiches, a creative mum has prepared ‘no mess’ sloppy joe burgers for her son’s lunches.

Unlike a regular sloppy joe burger, Australian mum-of-three Jodie cut a hole in the top of the bun, scooped in leftover mince meat and topped with cheese.

The clever idea prevents spillage and impressed other parents on Facebook after an image was shared to a popular community group.

‘Wasn’t much in to make sandwiches with today. So the boys are getting sloppy joes made with leftover mince from the spaghetti bolognese,’ Jodie wrote.

‘I cut the bun like a cob loaf so it doesn’t all slip out the side when they bite into them.’

Many considered the lunchbox inspiration to be a ‘great idea’, but some questioned if the bread turns soggy over time.

But Jodie said: ‘They’ve never mentioned it being soggy. But I do have a frozen popper in with it so that might keep it cooler to help stop that.’

Other parents thanked Jodie for sharing the 'genius' idea and many said they'll be trying it themselves for their family to enjoy (stock image)

‘The “not so sloppy” Joe! Great idea,’ another added.

A third wrote: ‘Never had a sloppy joe but these sound really nice.’
