She often ‘fills her freezer’ with cheap meat, making the most of her store’s ‘mark-down’ times.
‘When I shop, I shop to feed my children and to protect my bank account,’ she said.
Adding that on this occasion the manager appeared to be looking after her as he noticed her picking up each marked down item.
‘I was crying after having a fight with my kids dad about child support over the phone in Coles which he must of heard.. He then got a trolley and started marking down food items, then he came up to me and the kids and asked us if we’d like the trolley,’ she said.

Some people slammed her for ‘taking too much’ adding other people are doing it tough as well.
‘I find some good quick sales too however I like to leave some for others like me,’ one woman said.
The mum was quick to hit back.
‘All I have is Bill, bills bills and my four babies. So putting things back if I buy it cheaper is not on my radar,’ she said.
And staff backed her up.
‘The amount of reduced stuff that ends up in the bins every night is insane. So obviously leaving for others doesn’t work,’ one wrote.
Supporters said they hit their stores at ‘mark down time’ as well and have saved hundreds
The mum shared her receipt with other bargain hunters and said the store manager appeared to mark everything down just for her
It was 9pm, as she tries to shop at ‘mark down time’ but admits on this occasion her luck was down to the manager’s kindness.
‘Mark-down time’ differs between stores – but is usually sometime just before the store manager knocks off according to other bargain hunters.
‘Morning will have a slight markdown but night is when it’s either sold or bin so I’ve found 5pm to close is when they’re pretty much going “give me 20 cents so we don’t have to bin it”,’ one mum said,
‘I always used to miss out, then I asked a cashier and she told me markdowns at my store are done at 7.30pm,’ another said.
The mum filled her freezer with the meat, which was due to expire the following evening.
