Mum shares her unlikely solution for cleaning up her kitchen grout and leaving it sparkling in SECONDS – but it is quickly slammed as ‘unsafe’

  • A mum has revealed the unlikely product she has used to clean her kitchen grout
  • The mum revealed she used Drano after accidentally buying the product
  • But she has been slammed by others who said the product isn’t safe to use

A mum has revealed her unlikely supermarket find which transforms grout in seconds but she has been slammed for being unsafe with the chemical.

The mum posted a video showing herself cleaning her kitchen tiles with ‘Drano cleaning gel’ after ‘buying the wrong product’ at Woolworths.

‘I’m not sure if it’s a thing, but I actually bought this by accident instead of a different product and thought I’d give it a try on the grout,’ she wrote on the post which included a video and epic after photos.

‘Very light scrubbing needed. I noticed with time of doing it the longer you leave it on before you scrub the better outcome you get,’ she said.

But people were quick to point out the danger of using Drano on open surfaces despite the mum asking for ‘no hate’ on the post.

‘I won’t lie, I find it concerning how many people will use chemicals for cleaning and don’t even know what’s in them, how they work and how to use them properly,’ one woman wrote on the post.

Some slammed the woman for ignoring the product warnings and instructions and inciting others to do the same.

‘Please use gloves that provide chemical protection at least, caustic can cause serious chemical burns! Protect your eyes with safety glasses too – caustic can cause eye damage, your eyes have a very high absorption rate too, protect yourself,’ another clarified.

‘Drain cleaner is very dangerous and should only be used for its intended purpose,’ said another.

Some said people need to be more aware of the environment when trying new cleaners.

‘Just a health warning products like this can cause chemical burns to your eyes and skin and are corrosive to your respiratory system. We don’t use bleach either as I have two asthmatics and it triggers them terribly. These products are also dangerous for the environment. We have an environmental septic so they would destroy it and cost us thousands to repair, nevertheless everything you wash down your drains ends up in our waterways eventually so we all need to remember that,’ one woman said.

Others warned the cleaning product would eventually destroy the woman’s grout because it is ‘very caustic’.

‘There are going to be a lot of tilers with a lot of work after people have finished with this trend,’ one woman wrote on the post.

Not everyone was detoured by the safety warnings though and many thanked the mum for sharing her ‘amazing find’.

‘Love it, I am off to get some of this tomorrow,’ one woman said.

‘The worst thing about this post is that you feel like you have to say no to hate,’ one woman said.

‘Great product and great tip – I will try it for sure.’

Others revealed they ‘achieve the same result’ with less dangerous chemicals.

‘I use cheap dishwashing detergent and it does wonders,’ one woman said.

‘I find vinegar, bicarb and some good scrubbing can achieve the same result,’ said another.
