‘This is genius’: Mum’s clever way of doubling her supply of ziplock bags for her kids’ school lunches in SECONDS

  • A clever mother has shared the amazing way she makes ziplock bags
  • She heats a metal knife on the stove top and then sliced down the centre of bag
  • The heat from the knife fuses the sides back together, making two small bags
  • This saves her money in the long run on purchasing single-use plastic

A clever mother has doubled her supply of ziplock bags for her kids’ school lunches in seconds by using her cooktop and a knife.

The Queensland woman posted about the trick in a Facebook group, and it involves cutting a regular plastic ziplock bag in half with the knife.

Getting a knife, the women heats the metal instrument on her gas cooktop, letting it sit against the open flame for a few seconds.

The heat from the knife ‘reseals’ the plastic together quickly after the cut, revealing two completely separate, skinnier bags

With the regular-sized ziplock bag lying flat on the benchtop she then glides the hot knife down the centre, instantly searing it into two.

‘I use these to put grapes, mandarin pieces, blueberries and Jatz crackers in for school lunches,’ she said.

Comments underneath the post were filled with praise for the ingenious idea.

‘My mind is blown right now,’ said one person.

Another added: ‘This is genius! I have a vacuum sealer machine that could do the same thing! Never thought of doing this though.’

But some people were interested in knowing why she doesn’t just buy reusable and washable containers for her children.

‘My kids aren’t too responsible with their items and are always losing their little containers or lunch bags.

‘I was wasting so much money on these things that I needed a more affordable way of doing lunches.’

Another woman recommended cutting the bag on a bread board to avoid cutting into your bench.
