Murder probe is launched after elderly woman, 72, is found dead at home next to a man in his 70s with serious stab wounds

  • He is battling stab injuries and police say they will question him in due course 

A murder investigation has been launched after an elderly woman died and another pensioner suffered serious stab wounds.

Shuren Ma, from Woolwich, south-east London, died of a head injury aged 72 on Sunday July 1.

She was confirmed dead at the address about an hour after emergency services were called to a reported disturbance at around 6.40am.

A man in his early 70s, who was also at the address, was taken to an east London hospital with stab injuries and will be questioned in due course, the Met said.

His condition is described as serious but stable. Officers says they are not looking for anyone else over the incident at this stage.

There have been no arrests and the Homicide and Major Crime Command continue to investigate.
