‘I was worried I wasn’t going to be maternal’: My Kitchen Rules star Zana Pali shares the unexpected challenges of motherhood

They were known for their sharp culinary skills and confrontational attitude on My Kitchen Rules in 2016.

But Zana Pali and Gianni Romano are showing off a softer side since the birth of their first child Leonardo last month.

Zana, 26, told The Courier-Mail on Sunday that motherhood had presented her with some unexpected challenges.

‘The biggest challenge I find is the lack of sleep and the fact that 24/7 this helpless little munchkin is completely reliant on you for literally everything,’ she said.

‘It’s completely different to before when you were able to leave the house for appointments whenever you wanted, go out for a date night or just work on your business.’

Zana explained that most of the time she and Gianni, 30, are so tired they sleep whenever they can grab a moment to themselves.

The lawyer-turned-food blogger added that nothing could have prepared her for going into labour for the first time.

She said there were even moments when she believed her body was going to give up.

The business owner also confessed that she feared being unable to bond with  Leonardo after her pregnancy.

‘I was worried before birth that, “What if I wasn’t going to be maternal?”, “What if I wasn’t going to be a good enough mother?”‘ she said.

But the moment she cradled her son in her arms for the first time, Zana instantly fell in love.

Zana and Gianni were initially cast as the ‘villains’ on My Kitchen Rules but eventually won over fans later in the season.
