Mysterious four-legged creature spotted at Bristol Zoo leaves experts baffled

It’s home to over 200 animals, ranging from giraffes to cheetahs.

But despite this extensive collection, keepers at Bristol Zoo Project have been left baffled by one mysterious creature.

The four-legged animal was caught on a night vision camera in the Bear Wood habitat.

And the confused keepers say it’s ‘like nothing they have spotted before.’

‘The sighting of this mythical-like creature is a mystery to us here at Bristol Zoo Project,’ said Rosie Sims, Public Engagement Manager at Bristol Zoo Project.

‘Scotland has the Loch Ness monster and Cornwall has the Beast of Bodmin Moor.

‘Have we discovered a similar mythical here in Bristol perhaps?’

The UK Conservation team made the discovery while looking through images from camera traps.

These are used to survey and monitor the species inside the Bear Wood habitat, which include bears, wolves, wolverines, and lynx.

The mysterious creature has been spotted on several occasions, yet has been ‘impossible’ to identify, according to the keepers.

To get to the bottom of it, MailOnline turned to the AI bot, ChatGPT.

We uploaded a photo of the creature and asked ChatGPT: ‘What animal is this?’

Within seconds, the AI bot responded: ‘The animal in the image appears to be a muntjac, also known as a barking deer.

‘Muntjacs are small, deer-like animals with relatively short legs, a rounded body, and prominent, slightly backward-leaning ears.

‘They are known for their distinct, reflective eyes which are visible in the night vision photo.’

The sighting comes shortly after a strange-looking creature was spotted happily trotting around train tracks in Oregon.

Richard Melling and his wife were taking a morning walk across Sellwood Bridge in  Portland earlier this month when they noticed the animal in the distance.

Melling told OregonLive: ‘It definitely looked wild and it looked like a puppy. It was like a very, very happy puppy.’

But after taking a closer look, he realized the creature was not a dog and took out his phone to record a video in the hope they could identify it later.

However, even wildlife experts struggled to pinpoint exactly what the animal was until they eventually caught it a week later and determined it was an arctic fox.
