Three people are in a critical condition after a horror crash between a car and a B-double truck on a major highway.

The smash happened at the D-Aguilar Highway near the Nanango Tarong Road intersection, in Nanango, northwest of Brisbane before 6am on Thursday.

The highway has been closed in both directions south of Nanango and motorists have been told to avoid the area.

The B-double truck was found down an embankment near the highway when emergency services arrived at the scene.

The cab of the truck, which is where the driver of the heavy vehicle sits, had rolled over near a ditch following the collision.

The multiple trailers being towed by the truck managed to remain on the highway.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia three people sustained life threatening injuries.
