Gennaro Gattuso has insisted that Lionel Messi is capable of doing things that are only possible ‘on a Playstation’ as he prepares his Napoli side to face the Barcelona icon.

Gattuso and his men welcome the Catalan giants to the San Paolo Stadium on Tuesday but the Napoli boss has warned Messi and Co that his side will be willing to suffer to stop them from advancing. 

Napoli have never gone beyond the last 16 in the Champions League, which they have reached for the third time, and it remains a tall order for them to overcome Barcelona.

‘We have to play without fear,’ said Gattuso. ‘I want to see a team that is prepared to suffer.’

‘Messi is incredible, he can do things that you only see on Playstation, but we have to try and stop him,’ added the former midfielder, who faced Barcelona six times in his playing days.

‘We used to say at the end of the match that we were playing another sport because they wouldn’t let you touch the ball,’ he said. ‘They destroyed you mentally.’

The Argentine scored four goals against in a 5-0 win over Eibar on Saturday, which saw him achieve over 1,000 total goal contributions in his career after taking his incredible tally to 696 goals and 306 assists.
