One of the country’s most promising female jockeys is fighting for life after she was bucked from her beloved horse and trampled when it got frightened.

Natasha Faithfull, 25, fell from her mare during trackwork on Saturday morning at a beach in Albany, a coastal city at the southern tip of Western Australia.

The up-and-coming jockey suffered punctured lungs, broken ribs, a broken collarbone and a lacerated liver in the freak accident.

The incident took place as the equestrian enthusiast was leaving a beach right as something ‘spooked’ the mare.

‘Apparently she was just coming back from the beach and she fell with the horse over a sandbank,’ Racing and Wagering WA’s Ron Fleming told The West Australian.

‘The horse rolled on her and then jumped on her trying to get back up which is never good. It’s very unfortunate.’

Severely injured and gasping for breath, Ms Faithfull was stabilised by paramedics in the sand before she was airlifted to Perth for further treatment.

Ms Faithfull’s mother Samantha posted on social media: ‘Horse got a fright and flipped over and rolled down the bank with her then stopped on her trying to get up’.

She was placed in intensive care and is ‘not in a very good way,’ according to her mother.

An avid horseback rider for more than a decade, Ms Faithfull was taught to ride by her mother when she was only 13-years-old.
