Nebraska roofer removes 1000s of bees from couple’s home

Thousands of honeybees have been removed from a Nebraska couple’s attic after they noticed honey dripping down the side of their home.

‘We noticed bees around the chimney that would be flying and then figured out we had a lot of bees,’ Becky Reilly, of Omaha, told KETV.

Reilly said she believes the honeybees have been invading her home for years.

‘It’s just so strange to know we had thousands of bees in our attic and now we don’t,’ Reilly said.

A beekeeper acquaintance of the Reillys, John Gebuhr, told the station that bees ‘are cavity dwellers and an attic is a nice big cavity’.

‘It’s out of the rain, out of the wind,’ Gebuhr, who has been a beekeeper for 40 years, said.

Gebuhr said he has the bees in his garage but is pessimistic about their survival over the winter.

He hopes some can be returned to pollinate the Reillys’ garden.

Reilly joked that everyone is getting ‘bottles of honey this year’ for Christmas.
