Neighbours have described hearing ‘bloody-curdling screams’ when a man in his 20s was hacked to death with a machete in a horrific daylight attack.

Police rushed to Heath Town, Wolverhampton at 5.20pm on Monday after receiving reports a man had been attacked with a blade.

The victim, in his 20s, was found bleeding in the front garden of a block of flats and pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives last night launched a manhunt for the killer who made away on foot following the terrifying attack.

Residents living nearby today told how they heard ‘blood-curdling screams’ and shouts of ‘don’t do it’ shortly before the fatal attack.

One resident said: ‘I’d just been to the bins at the back of the flats when I heard awful blood curdling screams.

‘It’s normally loud around here with kids playing out and music going but this was different. I ran inside and a few minutes later the place was crawling with police.

‘A friend of mine lives closer to where it happened and told me they heard someone shouting “no no don’t do it!”‘

Another resident, Mandy, said: ‘There are loads of rumours about it being a love triangle or a drug deal gone wrong.

‘Either way a young fella is dead and there’s a killer on the loose. It’s pretty scary considering how many young families live round here.’
