Read neighbour’s furious note to woman using her ‘stinking polluting’ fireplace next door: ‘Have you thought about moving to Queensland?’
- A homeowner was outraged after their neighbour used a wood-burning fireplace
- Claims they couldn’t play outside with kids cause of toxic smoke
A woman has shared the outrageous note her neighbour sent her after using a wood-burning fireplace in the middle of a residential area.
The woman, from Melbourne, was sitting at home when she felt a sudden autumn chill in the air so she decided to light a fire.
But her evening-time activity was not lost on her neighbours – including a family who had to battle the ‘stinking polluting’ wood which had ‘spoiled’ their fresh air.
The woman found a furious note plastered to her door a few days later accusing her of ruining the family’s entire weekend with her ‘selfishness’ and ‘ignorance’.

The neighbour’s fury was made clear in her note.
‘Dear Neigubor [sic], have u thought about moving to Queensland? It’s obvious it’s not warm enough here for you that you have that stinking polluting wood fire burning all the time!
‘It beats us how people can so blatantly pollute & spoil the fresh air for others?’
They continued: ‘While you sit in the warmth all the other houses downwind have to chock [sic] & splutter on the toxic smoke u pump out, step outside and take a look at your chimney!’
The neighbour was particularly outraged by her family’s inability to enjoy Melbourne’s beautiful weather the previous weekend.
‘Last weekend was beautiful. 2 glorious days that we’d hoped to spend in the garden with the kids.. But your stinking smoke put paid to + instead we spent inside with doors + windows closed.’
The neighbour also seemed to attack the woman’s character, which betrayed existing tension between the two neighbours.
‘Word of warning…. Next time you b**ch and moan of another person’s selfishness impinging on your democracy’s [sic] just spare a thought that your ignorance & Woodfire has impinged on ours.’
The note was not signed off with a name but a simple, glaring: ‘NOT HAPPY!’
