Neighbours star Madeleine West shares worrying photo attached to IV drip amid secret health battle: ‘I’ve just had a massive wake up call’

Madeleine West shared a worrying photo of herself on Saturday – after opening up about her battle with anorexia and being the victim of childhood sexual abuse.

The former Neighbours star, 42, posted the photo to Instagram which captures her looking downbeat while resting on a hospital bed with an IV drip in her vein.

She told her concerned fans she had been pushing her body to its limits and was now taking some time off to recuperate.

‘There’s no prize for honouring every commitment if the price is dishonoring your health,’ she wrote.

‘I’m smiling but I’m not gonna sugarcoat the fact I’ve just had a massive wake up call. I know I’m not alone in being guilty of taking my health for granted.

‘I hear a lot of hype in my industry about being a YES MAN. Well right now I’m practicing being a NO WOMAN. Frankly, I’d rather be smelling the roses than attending fashion festivals.’

Last month, Madeleine spoke for the first time about her battle with anorexia, after revealing she was the victim of childhood sexual abuse.

Speaking to Stellar magazine, the 42-year-old said the trauma of being abused caused her to become obsessed with looking ‘perfect’ – a task that was both ‘punishing’ and never ending.

‘For every sexually abused person, what has happened to them will manifest in their life in some self-destructive behaviour. They are never to blame,’ she told the publication.

West revealed that in her early teens, not long after the abuse stopped, she developed anorexia as a coping mechanism.

It comes weeks after the mother-of-six claimed she was regularly abused by a ‘monster’ who lived in the town where she grew up.

She told The Sun of the alleged abuse: ‘This monster ruined my life. I’ve come out the other side, yes a survivor but happy to own the title of victim.

‘I’m now seeking justice. Anyone out there who is posting, watching or hurting a child, your time is up. The wheel is turning.’

She has now launched a new podcast called Predatory to shine the light on the issue of paedophilia along with ex-detective Gary Jubelin.

Madeleine reveals in her podcast’s confronting first episode it is extremely difficult for sexual abuse victims to find the courage to speak out.
