Nephew killed uncle, fled to Vietnam, killed himself there

A man who allegedly killed his uncle in his retirement home then fled to Vietnam and committed suicide, police say.

Phuong Thanh Nguyen, 53, has been identified as the primary suspect in the death of his 77-year-old uncle, Cong Huu Nguyen.

Cong Huu Nguyen’s body was found on April 20 in his home at the Little River Glen Senior Center in Fairfax, a Virginia suburb of Washington DC, reports the Fairfax Times.

He died from upper body trauma, according to the Virginia medical examiner. 

His death was ruled a homicide.

Police believe that Phuong Thanh Nguyen killed his uncle on April 4.

The nephew was originally a person of interest in the death.

Back in July, police reported that he had fled to Vietnam on April 5, the day after the killing.

He was later found dead in the Southeast Asian country. 

He is believed to have committed suicide.

Detectives say financial gain was the motive in the slaying.
