Nestle reveals Toffee Deluxe will return to Quality Street

Nestle has confirmed its Toffee Deluxe chocolate will be returning to Quality Street tubs this year

Nestle has confirmed its Toffee Deluxe chocolate will be returning to Quality Street tubs this year.

The confectionery giant decided to remove the sweet last year and replace it with Honeycomb Crunch for its 80th birthday last year but has announced both will be included this year, increasing the assortment from 12 to 13 chocolates.

The toffee treat was created in 1919 as a sweet in its own right and was included in the first ever box of Quality Street when it was invented in 1936.

Now fans of the Toffee Deluxe – a toffee encased in milk chocolate and enclosed in a brown wrapper – have revealed their joy and relief as the treat returns.

Ollie Berry wrote on Twitter: ‘Quality Street bringing back the Toffee Deluxe…This is not a drill!’ complete with a meme from The Office.

User Flynny said: ‘Christmas is no longer cancelled!’ and Will Kennedy wrote: ‘So first Robot Wars comes back, then @louistheroux is back on our screens in October and now Toffee Deluxe is back in Quality Street.’

The decision to remove the chocolate last year caused uproar among customers, who were told by Nestle that it was a case of ‘too many toffees’.

People took to Twitter to express vent their fury at Nestle.

User @DiyWoman wrote: ‘First #Brangelina then #GBBO now toffee deluxe has gone from Quality Street #crazytimes #christmaswontbethesame’

Another said: ‘Why not get rid of the Strawberry and Orange Creams?’

Yasmin MacKenzie wrote: ‘Hey @Nestle, what on earth is this? What happens to the Toffee Deluxe? That was the best toffee in your Quality Street!’

Jonathan Smith, senior brand manager for Quality Street, said: ‘The reaction to Honeycomb Crunch replacing Toffee Deluxe last year was incredible and, although a lot of the comments were tongue in cheek, it was obvious that there is still a great deal of fondness for the Toffee Deluxe out there.’

Nestle said main tub sizes and recommended retail prices remained unchanged this year.

Quality Street, a selection of chocolates that originally came in tins but are now more likely to be found in a plastic box, first hit the shelves in 1936 and were named after a play by Peter Pan author JM Barrie.
