Scientist Thomas Mayne developed and launched Milo at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 1934.

Fans of the iconic Australian drink expressed their excitement on social media this week after Milo Australia and NZ posted their plans on Facebook.

Several people suggested opening a café inside the Big Milo Tin, while others asked the company to turn the tin into a water tank ‘so it’s not useless.’

A woman who grew up in Smithtown said she has ‘enjoyed Milo all of [her] life and gladly will support this idea.’

More than 17,000 people ‘liked’ the post on Facebook.

Nestle Factory Manager Mat Oram told News.com.au that he has ‘been blown away by the level of support.’

‘What started as a fun idea has quickly grown into something much bigger, and we’re delighted to give something back to Milo fans and celebrate the rich 83-year Australian heritage of the Milo brand.’

‘With the history of Milo deeply rooted in Smithtown, it will be wonderful to share this celebration with the local community and put this great town on the map,’ Mr Oram said.
