Netflix fans have been left devastated after the creator of a blockbuster movie reportedly confirmed the sequel and spin-off TV series have been quietly axed in a ‘really sad’ U-turn.’

Army Of The Dead, directed and co-written by Zack Snyder, first made its debut on the streaming platform back in May 2021.

The film starred Guardians Of The Galaxy actor Dave Bautista, 55, who led an enormous ensemble cast featuring comedian Tig Notaro and Power star Omari Hardwick.

However, while the film was popular, it’s been said that Zack and wife Deborah, who is his producing partner, told The Wrap that the plans for an animated series and sequel films have been axed. 

Fans of the film took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their reaction to the news, with one remarking that it’s ‘really sad’.

They penned: ‘This is really sad to me. I loved Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves and wanted more. Now with Netflix is almost done with Stranger Things, there isn’t much left for me on there.’

Zack confirmed the sad news while discussing the director’s cut release of another project, Rebel Moon Part 1 and 2, with talk soon turning to Army Of The Dead.

The director then confirmed the sequel and spin-off would no longer be taking place but added that fans would still be able to enjoy an Army of the Dead theme park experience. 

He shared: ‘We are very ambitious with everything. And Army of the Dead isn’t entirely dead.

‘As Deborah pointed out that there will be a themed experience coming to the Six Flags theme parks this Halloween. 

Deborah then added: ‘It’s going to be a really cool experience.’

Dave Bautista starred as mercenary Scott Ward, who along with his team accepts a death-defying mission steal the riches of Las Vegas, which haws been overrunning by flesh-eating zombies.
