Netflix fans go wild over drama series with 2000s sitcom star… but warn ‘you better bring your tissues’

Netflix fans have gone wild over a drama series starring a 2000s sitcom star but have warned first-time viewers they may need some ’tissues’.

Based on a novel of the same name, Firefly Lane explores the life of two teenage girls in the 1970s, which it follows all the way up to their adulthood in the mid 2000s.

Reacting to the show on the Facebook group Netflix Bangers, which has over 3.2million members, users were highly complimentary of the series but advised new viewers of some upsetting scenes.

They wrote: ‘It’s brilliant, it’s beautiful, it’s sad. You will regret watching it but you will be so glad you did’.

‘You better bring your tissues.’

One person said: ‘One of the best! So sorry when I finished it’.

Another posted: ‘Beautiful show but the end was so heartbreaking’.

The show sees Kate Mularkey and Tallulah ‘Tully’ Hart, forge a friendship in Seattle after becoming neighbours on a street named Firefly Lane aged 14.

Katherine Heigl plays Tully while Kate is played by Sarah Chalke, who found fame and gained popularity through her portrayal of Elliot Reed-Dorian in Scrubs.

Also featuring in the show are Ben Lawson as Johnny Ryan, Kate’s ex-husband and Beau Garrett as Cloud, Tully’s free-spirited mother who has a problematic drug addiction.

Fans were quick to highlight how sad the show was because of a tear-jerking ending to the series, which sees Kate pass away after contracting a rare form of breast cancer.

The finale takes place at Kate’s funeral service 10 years later, which Tully almost chooses to miss because she is so heartbroken.

However, Johnny gives her a box that Kate prepared for her, including her book and an iPod with their favourite songs that gives her the courage to go to the service.
