Netflix fans go wild over remake of a 90s classic as they dub it ‘the perfect modern adaptation’

An animated series based on the Tomb Raider video game franchise is winning over viewers on Netflix.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft premiered on the streaming platform on October 10, delighting fans of the popular game series.

‘Just finished the Netflix Tomb Raider and it’s perfect. Stands right next to Castlevania in one of the best video game adaptations,’ gushed one.

Another fan praised the ‘amazing art and animation.’

‘I really enjoyed the Tomb Raider show on Netflix and I really do hope it gets a second season,’ wrote another.

‘Watched it all! Loved every single minute! Will be waiting for Season 2!’ gushed someone else.

‘Finished it, definitely exceeded my expectations,’ wrote another, while one exclaimed, ‘Hayley Atwell is killing it as Lara Croft! Please tell us she’s doing the games as well! She’s perfect.’

‘Okay the Tomb Raider anime was phenomenal, 10s across the board,’ wrote one.

The eight episode animated series follows globetrotting archaeologist Lara Croft, voiced by Hayley Atwell, as she attempts to retrieve a mysterious artifact that was stolen from her home.

In addition to the series, a new live-action Tomb Raider series is in development from Amazon Studios.

Prime Video officially ordered the series earlier this year, with Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge set to write and executive produce the project.

‘Phoebe has a lifelong love affair with Lara Croft and as soon and very soon we’ll start the worldwide search for who will play this iconic role and I just can’t wait,’ Amazon MGM studios chief Jennifer Salke said at the Amazon Upfronts.

‘If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode,’ Phoebe added.

The video game has already spawned a number of big screen adaptations.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie was a blockbuster hit in 2001, while its sequel, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, did moderately well.

In 2018, the film franchise was rebooted again as Tomb Raider, with actress Alicia Vikander in the titular role.

Despite grossing $274million worldwide, the action-packed flick was considered a flop and a proposed sequel was scrapped.
