Netflix fans hail ‘phenomenal’ thriller which lands on streamer about man who is wrongly accused by social media of being a terror suspect

A ‘phenomenal’ and ‘brilliant’ new thriller has landed on Netflix, causing viewers to think about the dangers of social media.

‘Accused’ follows a young man, played by Chaneil Kular, as a social media frenzy wrongly identifies him as a wanted terrorist who detonated a bomb on a London tube.

When the witch hunt of online threats lead to a home invasion, he’s forced to fight for his life.

The movie has seemingly gone unnoticed on the streaming platform, despite bagging an impressive and rare score of 100 per cent on popular review site Rotten Tomatoes.

However, movie buffs are beginning to pick up on how  ‘excellent’ it is, and taking to social media to spread the word.

One user wrote ‘Accused on Netflix is just brilliant, the reality in the society.

‘The power of social media, hate, racism and stereotypes can destroy lives just because everyone nowadays think they have a right and are entitled.’

Another said ‘Accused’ on Netflix is actually 10/10, tense af but so gripping and the reality of it is so important. 

‘Goes to show social media can be a bloody scary place. Defo worth a watch.’

Someone else said they ‘still feel anxious’ after watching, adding ‘If anything is after something good to watch, I’ve just watched Accused on Netflix. 

‘Absolutely brilliantly acted. Still feel anxious now. Really shows how dangerous social media can be.’

The tense and gripping thriller was directed by Philip Barantini, whose best known for his one shot-feature Boiling Point, starring Stephen Graham.

Fans will recognise ‘Accused’ star Chaneil Kular from Netflix’s Sex Education, where he plays high schooler Anwar Bakshi, after making his debut as Tariq Amiri on the BBC’s Doctors.

The actor tweeted the trailer when the film dropped on September 21, writing ‘”Accused out now on @NetflixUK!! 

‘It’s been a long time in the making but finally excited to share this with you all! Be sure to check it out x’

One day later he posted an update that the movie had reached number one of the top 10 films on Netflix that day.

Fans replied ‘You were brilliant,’ ‘absolutely stunning’ and ‘stellar performance’. 

Others added ‘Fantastic performance – tough and gritty watch but would highly recommend’ and ‘It was absolutely amazing. Terrifying. I hope you get awards for this. 

‘Loved how it spiralled from something so simple, showed the racism and political issues, but without patronising the watchers. Adored it, thank you for this.’
