Netflix’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery racks up $15M first week in limited theatrical release

The Netflix film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery garnered what is predicted to be a $15 million opening in its first week after a $13.3 million opening in its first five days.

The box office totals marked the streaming service’s most lucrative theatrical release for a film prior to arriving on Netflix.

The movie’s three-day open of $9.3 million marks the tenth-best opening for a film in less than 900 theaters, finishing in front of titles such as 1991’s The Doors, which made $9.1 million in 840 theaters; and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, which opened to $8.68 million in 530 theaters in 2004, Deadline reported.

The Netflix film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery – featuring Kate Hudson, Jessica Henwick, Daniel Craig and Leslie Odom Jr. – garnered what is predicted to be a $15 million opening in its first week after a $13.3 million opening in its first five days

The cast of the Rian Johnson-directed motion picture includes Daniel Craig, Janelle Monae, Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Kate Hudson and Leslie Odom Jr.

The motion picture was screened at the country’s top three cinema companies – AMC, Regal, and Cinemark.

Sources told Deadline that Netflix reached a business accord with theaters, charging them around 40 percent rental fees as opposed to the typical study range of 60 – 70 percent, and spent four times as much for marketing for exhibitors.

Cinemark had previously screened films from Netflix starting in the wake of the 2020 pandemic.
