The shocking discovery of a new born baby boy found dead inside a garbage can has one left one community New York City neighborhood heartbroken.
Police said the young child was found on Saturday morning around a basketball court in Dutch Kills Playground near 36th Ave. and Crescent St. in Astoria, Queens at about 10.45am.
Authorities added that the child’s umbilical cord was still attached to his body.

Devon Davis told local broadcaster WABC 7 that his friend confirmed that a dead baby boy was wrapped inside a plastic yellow bag.

‘It’s just really messed up, and really foul. It’s just something I really didn’t want to see. Having to see kids like that and seeing babies left like that. It’s just wrong,’ said Davis.
‘I went in, I saw the baby right there,’ Davis continued. ‘[My friend] had to use a stick to, like, take off the bag handle from its face because I couldn’t tell if it was still breathing or if it was dead or anything like that.’
Andy Hu, a convenience store cashier across the street from the park, called the incident ‘terrible,’ telling the Daily News that he was surprised to see ambulances and police cars in the area.
The boy was taken to NYC Health+Hospitals/Elmhurst by emergency medical units where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are investigating the incident and an autopsy has been slated to determine how the baby died.
No arrests have been made and the park remains closed as the investigation continues.
