Newly-hired LA Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh looked unrecognizable when he appeared in the iconic sitcom Saved by the Bell in the 1990s. 

The show ran from 1989 to 1993, with one of the episodes featuring a cameo from Harbaugh in the height of his Pro Bowl quarterback stint with the Indianapolis Colts. 

Harbaugh, who was playing himself, walked into the show’s popular restaurant and hangout spot ‘The Max’ to meet his cousin Screech. Upon his entry, Harbaugh was greeted by the sound of fans cheering and screaming his name. 

His short-lived screen time wrapped up with Harbaugh sitting in a booth with Screech and one of his friends. 

Harbaugh’s time with the Colts ended shortly after as he packed up to join the Baltimore Ravens for a season.

His playing career would take him to San Diego and Carolina before he retired in 2001. Before joining Indiana, Harbaugh had his longest tenure with the Chicago Bears from 1987 to 1993. 

Upon hanging up his cleats, Harbaugh began inking his storied coaching career. Harbaugh has spent significant amounts of time between the collegiate levels and the NFL. 

The Oakland Raiders were the first to offer Harbaugh a head coaching position. But after just one year, he parted ways with the team and worked four two years at the University of San Diego, then three years with Stanford. 

In 2011, Harbaugh rejoined the NFL ranks by accepting a position with the San Francisco 49ers. His run from 2011-2014 included a Super Bowl appearance in 2013, where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens, coached by his brother John. 

Harbaugh then spent nine years coaching the University of Michigan where he carried his alma matter’s reputation as one of the powerhouse programs in college football. 

After winning Michigan’s first national title since 1997, Harbaugh left the school and accepted a new role as the head coach for the Chargers. 

With his Pro Bowl selection and iconic TV cameo, Harbaugh was inducted to the Colts Ring of Honor in 2005.
