A state police officer could allegedly smell cannabis on the driver when he approached the car and his eyes were said to have been bloodshot.

The bloodied scissors were spotted by the cop as he asked Sochocki questions, and he later came across the remains of the pet.

There was also a rucksack with diapers in the man’s car, which he said he liked to wear.

The animal was taken to a nearby vets but died.

The driver reportedly told the trooper he had planned to feed it to wild birds in East Hartford.

But Sochoki was charged with using a car while under the influence, use of drugs, failure to drive in the correct lane and cruelty to animals.

He pleaded not guilty at a hearing at Rockville Superior Court on Wednesday.

The court heard how Sochoki walked into the pet shop looking ‘upset’, used the toilet and walked out before returning to buy the rabbit for $110.

The shopkeeper claimed he ‘aggressively’ picked up the animal’s box and left.

Sochocki has been released on bail but is due back in court on January 7.
