New footage captures Patrick Mahomes bluntly defying Andy Reid in Chiefs win over Bucs

Patrick Mahomes can be heard bluntly defying Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s orders in new footage from their win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Chiefs made it eight wins out of eight on Monday night after beating the Buccaneers in overtime, with Mahomes overcoming a major injury scare to inspire the victory.

Early in the fourth quarter, Kansas City held its breath when the superstar quarterback appeared to jar his left ankle while throwing a touchdown pass, before he was helped off the field by team staff.

Yet in the end he was able to return to the field without missing an offensive play and help the Super Bowl champions get over the line with their first overtime possession.

After the win, Reid revealed in his postgame press conference that he told Mahomes he was going to take him out of the game when he injured his ankle, only for his star man to ‘want to fight me’.

And now footage of that hilarious exchange between Reid and Mahomes has been released.

In a video captured by Inside the NFL, the Chiefs quarterback can first be seen walking over to his coach on the sideline after briefly coming off injured.

‘Patrick, I’m gonna take you out,’ Reid tells him.

Mahomes then says in disbelief: ‘No. No no. Come on, man.’

After Reid whispers something to him behind his tactics sheet, he then adds: ‘Nah I’m good. I’m good.’

Mahomes stayed in the game as he wished and, after the Bucs cancelled out Hopkins’ touchdown to force overtime, went on to win what proved a crucial coin toss against opposite number Baker Mayfield.

Mayfield could be seen sighing in frustration when the three-time Super Bowl champion opted to take the ball first, before Kareem Hunt scored the winning touchdown on Kansas City’s first drive.

It proved another night to savor for the Chiefs, with the Bucs left to rue not going for a two-point score after their last-gasp touchdown to level it up.

Although he managed to finish the game, Mahomes’ ankle injury was a concern given it was the second straight game in which he has felt pain in the same area, abruptly pulling up from a scramble and instead opting to throw a touchdown pass.

However, earlier this week he quelled fears that he could miss the Chiefs’ next game against the Denver Broncos, despite admitting his ankle is still ‘a little bit sore’

‘When you have a little bit of a roll, it’s a little bit sore,’ Mahomes told reporters on Wednesday as preparations began for the Broncos game.

‘But I’m able to move around and look forward to getting out to practice and seeing how I can push it as the week goes on.’
