New Jersey State Trooper pulls over former cop- realizes officer had delivered him 27 years ago

Amazing video captured the one-in-a-million chance that a New Jersey state trooper had during a routine traffic stop, when he realized the man he pulled over was the cop who helped deliver him 27-years-ago.

Trooper Michael Patterson pulled over former cop Matthew Bailly for a tinted window violation in Kingwood Township last week.

What appears as a normal traffic stop for Trooper Patterson, quickly turns into the reunion of a lifetime.

‘Hows it going today? Can I get license, registration and insurance card. Oh Piscataway PD?’ the trooper adds, as Bailly seemingly passed along his police identification.

While the amazing happenstance reunion was caught on video, it is hard to see the face of retired officer Bailly, but its the men's words that really bring to life the reality of what a small world this is

The identification photo is a little older, the retired Piscataway officer explains, half joking, but assures Trooper Patterson that the man in the photo is indeed him.

Then the retired officer shares some details of his history in the neighborhood, where he was on patrol.

Next came the big revelation- the retired officer says the street where Trooper Patterson was born, and that that was the first time he had helped delivered a baby.

Bailly says ‘It was years ago, it was the first baby I delivered and it was at that house, that’s why i always remembered the address. I delivered him in the bedroom by myself.’

‘That was me that was me!’ Trooper Patterson exclaimed.

‘Get the hell out of here!’ responded Bailly to possibly one of the best, most heartwarming happenstance meetings two people- both in law enforcement non-the-less, can have.

At the very end of the clip, Patterson says to the retired officer that helped usher him into the world ‘Lovely to meet you.’

Patterson’s mother had suddenly went into labor at a shopping mall and rushed home 27 years ago.

New Jersey State police hail the serendipitous encounter as pure luck.

‘We’re not sure what the odds are of this happening—maybe they’re close to the odds of a hole-in-one, winning the lottery, or being struck by lightning—but it happened,’ the police department shared on Facebook.

As Patterson and Bailly talked, Bailly revealed that he used to be a police officer in Piscataway – the neighborhood where Patterson grew up.

During the course of their conversation, which was not released in full on Patterson’s body camera video, said he grew up on Poe Place.

Bailly then reminisced how he once helped deliver a baby there on October 5, 1991 when he was a rookie cop, recalling the color and style of the home he rushed to, and the baby’s name Michael.

Patterson then extended his hand saying: ‘My name is Michael Patterson, sir. Thank you for delivering me’.

A doctor talked Officer Bailly through the birth via telephone leading to Michael’s birth.

Awestruck with the reunion, Patterson and his mother Karen later visited Bailly and his wife to reminisce the miracle delivery and their fateful reunion.

Their chance encounter has gone viral with over 18,000 likes on Facebook.
