Holidaymakers wanting to dive and snorkel on Queensland’s reefs are now protected by a code of a practice, a first for an Australian state.
The legislation requires defibrillators to be on reef tourist vessels and for operators to identify at-risk snorkellers prior to them entering the water by giving them flotation devices and a swimming buddy.
“I am confident that this finalised code will ensure visitors who are diving and snorkeling in our state feel it is being done in the safest manner possible,” Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said on Wednesday in Cairns.
