New Roy Morgan Research ranks Australia’s most trusted – and distrusted – retail brands

The latest data from Roy Morgan Research revealed that Bunnings has overtaken Australia’s two supermarket giants to become Australia’s most trusted brand.

The research revealed the most trusted and distrusted brands in the 12 months to December 2023.

Bunnings, which last held the top spot in 2020, has again been crowned Australia’s most trusted brand.

According to Roy Morgan CEO Michele Levine, Bunnings is a brand with a vast reservoir of goodwill and reputational strength.

‘Its trust has been climbing steadily over the past year while its minimal distrust remains fairly stable,’ she said.  

‘Bunnings has harnessed many of the foundational pillars of a trusted brand including great customer service, communicating what it stands for and delivering, being an active part of the community, solving customer’s problems and expertise and product knowledge.’ 

Woolworths lost its crown after a three-and-a-half year stronghold, slipping down one place into second. 

Aldi and Kmart moved into third and fourth place respectively, while Coles slipped down into fifth spot. 

Apple retained its position as Australia’s sixth most trusted brand, while Toyota jumped Myer to make it into seventh spot. 

Big W and Australia Post also retained their places as the ninth and 10th most trusted brands. 

Optus remains the most distrusted brand in Australia, followed by social media giant Meta.

Telstra surpassed Qantas, which landed at number three on the distrust rankings after a turbulent 2023.

Media giant News Corp and Health insurer MediBank came in fifth and sixth spot, while Amazon remained unchanged in seventh spot on the distrust ladder. 

TikTok, took eighth spot, while X, formerly Twitter, feel back one spot as most distrusted to ninth. 

Food manufacturer Nestle took last place, coming in at 10th on the distrust rankings.
