New South Wales young mum, 27, body found in a shed before former partner arrested for breaching AVO

The death of a young mother that looked like suicide is now being investigated as a murder after her body was found inside a shed.

Nicole Wetzler’s body was found after police were called to a property on Kookora Street in Griffith, New South Wales, at about 4am on Sunday.

Ashley James Alchin, 35, her former partner who was the subject of an apprehended violence order (AVO), had alerted her neighbours at 4am saying something was wrong at her house.

Ms Wetzler was found by police inside a rear shed away from the main residence.

Police are working to establish if the 27-year-old woman met with foul play but are treating it as suspicious.

A few hours later, officers arrested Ashley James Alchin and charged him later with three counts of breaching an apprehended domestic violence order.

The 35-year-old was also charged with driving an unregistered vehicle while disqualified.

There is no suggestion that Alchin was involved in Ms Wetzler’s death.

Alchin did not apply for bail and it was formally refused when he faced Griffith Local Court on Monday.
