New vegan market launches in Sydney this weekend

A new market slated to be a regular fixture on the Sydney food scene is set become a vegan’s paradise.

The exciting new venture kicks off this Sunday at Fraser park in Marrickville will be Australia’s largest vegan food venture, featuring close to 100 strictly vegan stalls.

The Sydney Vegan Market’s launch coincides with World Vegan Month, which takes place during November, the market and will be held every third Sunday after that.

‘Australia is the third-fastest growing vegan market in the world,’ said the event’s organiser Kate Jones.

Ms Jones – who runs two vegan food business – is an active figure within the vegan community, cut her teeth producing vegan goods a local market six years ago. 

She said the aim of this market is to not only bridge a gap for those wanting to buy fresh vegan produce, but to also foster an active community presence.

‘Our promise is to make veganism and cruelty-free living accessible to all.’

Fashionable market goes can also pick up vegan accessories such as a cork clutch for $65.00 or a stylish wallet for $45.00

Vegetarian butcher Suzie’s Spoon offers meat-free alternatives to bacon $14.00, Schnitzel $14.00, and sausages $12.50.

Bespoke Kombucha brewers Mailer McGuire will also be on site selling their ‘single ferment brew’ available either on tap or to buy in one litre bottles.

Vegan stallholders David Lowes and Andreanne Pelletier, co-founders of Organic Village’s Soy-free Tempeh believe the market will be a hit, not only for committed vegans but for those thinking about exploring the lifestyle option.

‘It’s not veganism per se, more than it is people making ethical choices for the products they choose to have in their lives, said Dave and Andie.

‘Gone are the days of meat and three vegetables – we are literally spoilt for choice and we are seeing more consumers – not just vegans – beginning to adopt a conscious cruelty-free life.’
