New Wrexham FC investor? Hugh Jackman dons merch for the celebrity-owned football club

Hugh Jackman has shown his support for Wrexham FC as he joined his close friends Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds for a stroll in New York City on Thursday.

The actor donned a hat bearing the Welsh football club’s logo, fuelling rumours that he could buy into the league, which is owned by his pal Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney.

Jackman, 55, is known to be very close with Reynolds and there is potential for the pair to go into business in the National League.

Reynolds and McElhenney purchased Wrexham – a team that had gone into administration in the 2000s and hadn’t been in the Football League in over 10 years – back in 2021 for around £2 million (AUD $3,854,250).

After holding talks in September of 2020, the actors officially purchased the club in November of that year.

That bid saw overwhelming support from the previous owners, the Wrexham Supporters Trust – where over 98 percent of the voters were in favor of the sale.

It was completed in February of 2021 – with the entire process being documented in the FX television documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

McElhenney, a star and producer of the sitcom ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, took on an executive producer role alongside Reynolds in the documentary.

Jackman, meanwhile, rang in his 55th birthday during a relaxing stroll with Reynolds and his wife Lively this week.

The Greatest Showman actor is said to be still ‘mourning’ his split from Deborra-Lee Furness after 27 years of marriage.

In September, the former couple released a statement to People that read, ‘We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage.

‘Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.’

Both Ryan and Jackman are slated to appear in the upcoming film, Deadpool 3, together – with Reynolds reprising his role as Deadpool (Wade Wilson), and Hugh portraying his character of Wolverine.
