New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers ‘selected to star in Hard Knocks despite making it clear to league that they DID NOT want to participate’
The Jets have been selected by the NFL and NFL Films to be on ‘Hard Knocks’ this year, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The show, which has aired on HBO (now Max) since 2001, documents a team during training camp and the preseason, offering fans a behind the scenes look at one of the NFL’s 32 franchises.
If a team does not have a first-year head coach in place, hasn’t made the playoffs in the last two seasons and hasn’t appeared on the show in the past 10 years, it is eligible to be selected.
Only the Saints, Commanders and Bears fit that criteria other than the Jets.
New York, according to ProFootballTalk, made it extremely clear to the league that it didn’t wish to participate as it begins the Aaron Rodgers era, but will now have a camera crew following it around starting next week.

Aaron Rodgers and Zach Wilson’s relationship will be something to look out for on the show
Rodgers has been pictured showing off his ripped physique ahead of the new season
Jets coach Robert Saleh will look to lead the team to a winning season in 2023
The team last appeared on the show in 2010, when Rex Ryan was the head coach and Mark Sanchez was the quarterback.
While the team now has a more experienced passer in Rodgers, the dynamic between him and backup Zach Wilson will be one to watch.
Wilson has disappointed since the Jets used the second overall pick on him in 2021, and now finds himself sidelined by the more accomplished Rodgers. The former BYU quarterback is just 23 and surely will look to pick Rodgers’ brain.
Elsewhere on the roster, the Jets have a pair of second-year studs in Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, who won Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year respectively.
Additionally, Rodgers was reunited with former Packers receiver Allen Lazard, while second-year running back Breece Hall – who had scored a rushing touchdown in four straight weeks prior to tearing his ACL in Week 7- will look to re-establish himself in the Jets’ offense.
Led by head coach Robert Saleh, the Jets jumped out to a 6-3 start last season but limped to a 7-10 finish as they failed to get consistent quarterback play.
