New York Jets star Xavier Newman rushed to hospital after horror injury as he leaves game on stretcher

New York Jets offensive lineman Xavier Newman has been rushed to hospital after suffering what appeared a serious neck or spinal injury in their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Newman fell awkwardly after shipping a heavy hit midway through the third quarter and was initially unable to move his limbs as he laid in agony on the turf.

When an Aaron Rodgers pass was intercepted by the Steelers, the 25-year-old took the hit and stumbled backwards in an attempt to find his balance, only to land the wrong way and fall to the ground.

He left the game on a stretcher and quickly made his way to hospital, though NBC has since confirmed he was able to squeeze a trainer’s hand in a positive sign for his upper extremities.

More to follow.
