BREAKING NEWS: New York Mets’ Khalil Lee, 24, is accused of choking his girlfriend in May and now faces an arrest warrant in Syracuse for criminal obstruction of breath

New York Mets minor leaguer Khalil Lee is being accused of physical and verbal abuse by an ex-girlfriend and Syracuse police have issued a warrant for the 24-year-old on the charge of criminal obstruction of breath, according to Syracuse.com.

Lee is specifically accused of pulling his now-ex-girlfriend’s hair and choking her during an argument on May 7, 2022. Major League Baseball has opened an investigation into the claims, which were made in a federal lawsuit filed on Wednesday.

‘The Mets immediately notified MLB upon becoming aware of the allegations,’ the Mets said in a statement. ‘We will fully comply with MLB’s policy and cannot comment until the completion of the league’s investigative process.’

Lee has played in only 13 Major League games, but is currently on the Mets’ 40-man roster. The Delaware native played for the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse in 2021 and 2022.

Syracuse police did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for confirmation.
