New York restaurant charges $150 for a SANDWICH: Eatery’s ‘Royale with Cheese’ contains world’s priciest beef (and you can make it a $200 ‘happy meal’ by adding a white truffle milkshake)

You’ll need to savour every bite of this sandwich. And you’ll be hoping it tastes good.

Because it costs a whopping $150 (£116).

The ‘Royale with Cheese’ is the most expensive item on the menu at Sip & Guzzle, a cocktail bar in Manhattan.

It’s made from one of the world’s most expensive meats and comes served on a gold platter.

The dish was created by Mike Bagale, former executive chef of Chicago’s three-Michelin-star Alinea, who oversees the Sip & Guzzle kitchen.

Mike is known for his ‘progressive’ and ‘experimental’ cooking, with his menu paying homage to Japanese culture using his ‘artistic eye’ and the ‘world’s best ingredients’.

For the Royale with Cheese, he uses an A5 Miyazaki wagyu tenderloin and adds a house-made cheese ‘slice’ made from aged white cheddar.

He then layers on minced onions and Japanese barbecue sauce made from wasabi, smoked soy sauce, shio koji, brown sugar, tomato and rice vinegar.

As for the bread, he uses the ‘pillowy’, ‘cloud-like’ shokupan milk bread, imported from the Tokyo bakery Ginza Nishikawa.

The sandwich comes served inside an ‘imaginative’ gold box designed by HMH Iron Design, a New York-based metal fabricator company.

If that isn’t decadent enough, you can ‘make it a happy meal’ by adding a black truffle cherry soda float or a white truffle milkshake for an extra $50 (£38).

Thinking of making it yourself? You might need to dip into your savings.

An 8lb Miyazaki tenderloin can set you back over $1,000 (£780), and the loaf of shokupan bread costs $18 (£14) alone.

Is the sandwich worth the money?

Those who’ve tried it give it a firm thumbs up.

TikToker Ella Kahan, known online as @chewyorkcity, described it as ‘the star of the show’ in her review of Sip & Guzzle.

She said it is the ‘fanciest cheeseburger you’ll ever eat’, and said it’s made from ‘cheesy, dreamy, meaty wagyu goodness’.

TikToker @kaitlyneats also reviewed the sandwich, which she worked out to be around $30 (£23) a bite. She said: ‘Was it the best steak sandwich I’ve ever had? Probably. Would I ever buy it again? Probably not.’

Meanwhile, Guzzle’s menu boasts an extensive cocktail menu and the ‘world’s thinnest sandwich’ made from ingredients that include 5j jamon (reputedly one of the world’s best hams) and extremely fine French cheese.

The restaurant operates primarily on a walk-in basis. While reservations can be made on Resy, the restaurant claims they are ‘extremely limited’ and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
