New York Yankees set to appoint Sean Casey – Aaron Boone’s old Reds teammate – as their new batting coach
The New York Yankees are set to appoint Sean Casey as their new batting coach.
Casey, who played alongside manager Aaron Boone at the Cincinnati Reds, will replace Dillon Lawson.
Lawson was fired Sunday, shortly after the Yankees were beaten by the Cubs.
Now, according to the New York Post, Casey will take over until the end of the 2023 season.
Casey is nicknamed ‘The Mayor’ and hasn’t coached at a major league team before.
It has been a poor season so far for the Yankees offense, which has been hindered in no small part by injuries to key men.
Star slugger Aaron Judge is currently sidelined with a toe ligament injury. Judge got hurt on June 3, crashing through the outfield defense in a game against the Dodgers.
Furthermore Giancarlo Stanton – who hit two home runs in Saturday’s win over the Cubs – missed six weeks with a hamstring issue.
