A man who confessed to illegally painting yellow lines outside his house for 20 years, has won his battle with the council to have them made permanent.
New Zealand man Russell Taylor illegally painted the lines on Holloway Road, in Wellington, to prevent people from parking on the narrow street.
Mr Taylor’s hard work was vindicated this week, 20 years after he first painted the yellow guerrilla parking restrictions.

Wellington City Council proposed it would paint legitimate yellow lines, and other road signs to meet Mr Taylor’s requirements, Stuff reported.
The council called for public submissions for the road which would see 17 car parks sacrificed for the ‘no parking’ lines.
He said he was delighted with the result.
Mr Taylor said he was never given permission to paint the lines, but he planned to continue doing it until council took action.
A council spokesman told Stuff it was illegal to paint the road markings, but the council favoured working with Taylor rather than taking legal action against him.

The Holloway Road resident, who lived there since 1970, said he saw countless accidents and near-misses.
He claimed a fire engine was forced to tow cars from the street in order to navigate its way through, something the council admitted had happened.
‘Recycling trucks have also faced the similar situation on a number of occasions and have expressed their opinion over the phone to confirm the issue of restricted access,’ Taylor told Stuff.
Wellington City Council Spokesman Richard Maclean said the council was ‘aware of problems and complaints about parking in Holloway Road.
