  • Lauren Crean said her daughter Piper, two, normally steps out of car herself
  • It was only because it was raining that Piper’s father lifted her into the trolley
  • Mrs Crean said she was appalled drug users could leave their syringes behind

A disgusted mother has issued an urgent warning to other parents after her two-year-old daughter nearly stepped on a discarded syringe.

Lauren Crean said her daughter Piper was barefoot when she got out of their family car at the 24-hour Kmart in Newcastle, New South Wales, on October 5.

The Lake Macquarie mother-of-two said the only reason Piper didn’t step out into the car park like she normally did was because of the weather.

‘It was raining at the time so I asked my husband Brad if he could get her out of the car and into the trolley,’ the stay-at-home mother told Daily Mail Australia.

‘He went to open the door and went ‘holy s**t’ when he saw the syringe.’

As well as the needle, Mrs Crean said she also saw a pair of undies on the ground and wondered whether they belonged to the same person.

‘I know people are out there who do drugs but I’m so disgusted people could just leave it on the ground,’ she said.

‘You never know what she could have ended up with if she had stood on the syringe – we could have been dealing with something for the rest of our lives.’

Mrs Crean was so shocked by the discovery at the Waratah Kmart in Newcastle’s west she shared her experience to a local mother’s Facebook group.

Other commenters said the area was particularly bad for people taking drugs.

‘Shocking. My husband and I pulled up at Waratah Kmart about a month ago and watched a guy shooting up on the backseat of his wagon with the door wide open just near the trolley bay,’ one said.

‘Waratah is the worst for this,’ another added.

Daily Mail Australia have contacted Kmart for comment.

The young family had made the trip to the Kmart to buy arts and crafts after a trip to the local market.
