Newlywed husband learns his fate after brutally decapitating his glamorous wife, 21, before driving to liquor store she worked at to steal beer

A Texas man who pleaded guilty to the savage murder of his young wife was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Jared James Dicus, 23, was handed the lengthy sentence by District Court Judge Gary Chaney after confessing to police last year that he beheaded his wife of less than four months, 21-year-old Anggy Diaz.

As part of Dicus’ plea agreement, he waived all his rights to appeal the verdict or the sentence.

He was sentenced during a pretrial hearing that focused on his competency, and after a court-ordered evaluation of his mental faculties was completed, he was deemed fit to stand trial, the District Attorney of Waller County announced.

Dicus and Diaz were wed in October 2022, but their marriage would end in complete horror.

On January 11, 2023, Dicus’ parents called 911 to report that they’d found Diaz’s mutilated body in a small cottage the couple lived in behind their home near Magnolia, Texas, a city about 45 miles northwest of Houston.

Officers from the Waller County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and made a gruesome discovery.

Diaz was found in a pool of blood next to the bed, with investigators noticing she had sustained several stab wounds to the back with a kitchen knife, according to court documents obtained by FOX 26 Houston.

Those documents also revealed that Diaz’s head had been separated from her body and was found in the shower.

‘Everything happened on the property. And all parts and pieces were recovered and submitted for evidence,’ Sheriff Troy Guidry said.

Prosecutors and police would gain a rare look into the state of mind of Dicus, who was caught on surveillance video stealing a beer from the convenience store his wife worked at.

He seemingly did this hours after murdering and dismembering her.

The video footage was taken at the Chepes Meat Market and shows Dicus’ car arriving around 11:40am.

He was seen wearing a T-shirt and jeans, grabbing a beer from the fridge, walking past the counter and out of the store, before taking a hearty swig in the parking lot.

According to Guidry, investigators were called out to the scene of the murder that same day.

Dicus’ parents told responding deputies their son came inside their home and made a statement that prompted them to check the cottage, which led to them discovering Diaz’s body.

Shortly after the murder, Diaz´s friends told KHOU-TV that she was an immigrant from Nicaragua who had been working two jobs to help pay for her mother’s cancer treatment back home.

Even the judge who married the couple felt the need to make a post on Facebook remembering Diaz.

Police responded to the couple's property more than once for reports of domestic violence, Sheriff Guidry said during a press conference last January.

‘As with many of you, I’m greatly saddened and shocked by the news of this tragic event and my prayers are with all of their families,’ Waller County Judge Trey Duhon said.

‘Out of respect for the families, I have taken down my photo with the couple and the post announcing their marriage, primarily due to the insensitive nature of some comments that were being made on that post,’ he continued.

Just two weeks before her murder, Diaz had posted a picture of herself and her husband on Christmas day to her Instagram, wishing her friends and family a ‘happy merry Christmas.’

‘Merry Christmas my beautiful wife,’ Dicus responded to the post, calling his wife a ‘trophy.’

Her last post to Instagram sharing a photo of her lunch was sent out just hours before investigators believe she was killed.

In a post on her 20th birthday in October 2021, Diaz wrote ‘Solo puedo dar gracias a Dios por bendecirme tanto’ which translates to ‘I can only thank God for blessing me so much.’

Despite how the couple interacted on social media, behind closed doors, it became clear their relationship was full of turmoil and violence.

Police responded to their property more than once for reports of domestic violence, Sheriff Guidry said during a press conference last January.

And two months before Dicus would slay his wife, he was arrested on a DWI charge, with court records showing he threatened a cop and other staff at the jail.

After he reportedly punched windows in abject frustration, police forced him into a restraint chair.

DA Sean Whittmore said due to the brutality of his crime, Dicus will not be eligible for parole until 2043 at the earliest.

If he serves out his entire sentence, he will be 63 years old when he gets out.

‘Waller County does not tolerate domestic violence. Heinous crimes like this one will not go unanswered, we will seek justice for the victims of domestic violence and send a message to the perpetrators that here, we fight for our victims,’ Whittmore said in a statement.
