NFL: Aaron Rodgers admits seeing his Green Bay backup Jordan Love playing well ‘fires him up’

Aaron Rodgers admits seeing his Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Jordan Love playing well ‘fires him up’ as he hails teammate: ‘It’s not bulls***, I love him and I care about him’

  • The reigning league MVP has complimented his No. 2’s development and ability
  • Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has responded to people saying he isn’t genuine
  • The Packers open their season on the road against the Vikings next Sunday

There are very few people who can understand what it’s like to be the backup to a legendary quarterback. Lucky for Jordan Love, Aaron Rodgers is one of them.

Rodgers waited for years behind Packers icon Brett Favre and was put through the ringer in the media when he challenged for Favre’s spot.

Love faced similar backlash when he was selected in the first round of the 2019 draft, so Rodgers has taken his experiences and tried to make things better for Love.

In an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Friday, Rodgers opened up about his relationship with his backup QB.

‘It’s not bulls*** when I stand in front of my locker and speak glowingly about Jordan and the things that I’m seeing him doing well in the preseason and in practice,’ Rodgers said.

‘I’m not, like, doing that for some sort of virtue signaling or whatever. I’m doing that because I love him and care about him and I want him to do well.

‘When I see him out there doing well, man, it fires me up. When I see him drop back and one-hitch and throw a f***ing dime, I’m like, “yes, homie, yes.”‘

Love was drafted 26th overall in 2019 out of Utah State after the Packers traded up to take the signal caller.

Rodgers isn’t going anywhere soon however – with the 38-year old signing a three-year, $150million extension back in March.

The conversation started when McAfee brought up the current dynamic between San Francisco 49ers QBs Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.

Garoppolo, who was supposedly part of trade discussions, chose to stay in San Francisco despite management choosing to start Lance.

‘They probably have to let ’em be. There’s really truly not a lot of animosity in the locker room,’ Rodgers said when asked about San Francisco’s dynamic.

‘It’s our guys. You’re not best friends with everybody on the team, but there’s a lot of really good, close friendships in the locker room.

‘I bet it’s the same with Jimmy and Trey. Like, Jimmy he’s a competitor, he probably wanted to be somewhere and have a chance to be a starter.

‘But c’est la vie, it is what it is. He’s gonna be there, he’ll be a great teammate I’m sure, and if something happens or they struggle, he’ll be ready to jump in.’
