NFL veteran Joe Flacco given shock start for the Colts as Anthony Richardson fails to prove his fitness

Joe Flacco will once again start at quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, after Anthony Richardson failed to prove his fitness in time for today’s game.

Richardson has practiced all week as he tries to overcome an oblique injury, but it has now been decided that he is not fit enough to start the game.

Instead, he will be an emergency QB3, with Flacco, 39, starting under center with Sam Ehlinger as his back-up.

Richardson also missed last week’s narrow loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars at the last moment, with Flacco again called into the line-up.

Richardson, 22, got hurt in the Week 4 win over the Steelers, and has now missed 15 games out of a possible 23 in just two seasons in the NFL.

He first got hit hard on his right hip during a designed run and again three plays later when he appeared to take another big shot.

Veteran Flacco, 39, will make his second start of the season against the struggling Titans, after impressing with three touchdown passes last weekend.

Flacco has thrown for five touchdowns and 527 yards since replacing Richardson mid-game against the Steelers, even showing off his legs with some impressive running.

In a huge boost for the Colts, star wide receiver Michael Pittman has been listed as active for Sunday’s game, despite a trip to injured reserve being contemplated.

Pittman injured his back and was expected to miss multiple games, but has instead been listed as active for the game on the road at the Titans.
