Nick Bosa jokes 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is ‘like Scottie Scheffler without getting arrested’ as duo return for OTAs after losing the Super Bowl

San Francisco 49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa praised his quarterback, Brock Purdy, in an interview at the team’s OTAs this week – but also managed to crack a joke about Scottie Scheffler’s recent arrest.

When asked about Purdy’s character and his role within the team, Bosa said that he’s become even more of a leader and thinks that a new contract with more money wouldn’t change who he is.

‘I think he’s definitely getting a little more vocal within the building and, yeah, I mean, I don’t think he’s ever going to change.

‘I don’t think he’s somebody that’s going to change even when he gets paid next year.’

‘He’s a man of faith, and he kind of reminds me of Scottie Scheffler, except for he got arrested,’ Bosa added – which drew laughs from the media.

‘Just super humble and really good kid. And, yeah, he’s definitely famous.’

Scheffler was arrested after trying to get into the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky last week for the PGA Championship.

After being booked for allegedly dragging a cop who hung on to his vehicle, Scheffler was charged with felony second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and failure to obey signals from an officer directing traffic.

The felony charge could land Scheffler in prison for up to ten years.

There was speculation that the charges against the Masters champion would be dropped – or even reduced.

Instead, however, officials vowed to ‘to respect the legal process’ and ‘let it play out’.

The detective who arrested Scheffler, Bryan Gillis, was given ‘corrective action’ for his failure to activate his bodycam to record the situation.

‘Detective Gillis should have turned on his body-worn camera, but did not,’ Louisville police chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said at a press conference on Thursday.

Detective Gillis is facing further scrutiny with accusations that he once drove an ‘intoxicated civilian’ in his ‘police vehicle’ and did ‘donuts’ in a business parking lot.

Scheffler returned to play at the Charles Schwab Challenge at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas – nearby his home in Dallas.

As for the 49ers, they’re in the middle of their optional team activities – or OTA – phase of the preseason.

Both Bosa and Purdy have attended and taken part in drills as the team hopes to rebound from last year’s Super Bowl defeat.

The 49ers went to overtime in Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs but fell 25-22 as KC was able to march down the field and score a touchdown.
